Jiffy Dress: Simplicity 1609
When the new simplicity books came into the store (I work at Fabricland) and I flipped the page to this new re-released Jiffy dress, I gasped. "OMG we have to make this". So I whipped up a sample for a summer camp class. When I first saw this pattern, it looked like the dresses from Moonlight Kingdom, but now in this color it's reading as Megan from season 4 of Mad Men. Perfect for the Mad Men challenge! (My second entry!)
The fabric is a cotton, with a bit of spandex in this BRIGHT coral color, I just love it. The collar is in a white cotton pique, with some covered buttons also in white. This pattern is an excellent reprint. It has french darts in the front, and one piece facing. I LOVE one piece facings. It makes such a clean finish. This dress was so easy to put together, It took me a little more than a morning. Good thing too because I have to teach this class to teenagers this summer!

ReplyDeleteSuper cute, love the color.
ReplyDeleteLove. I love simple shift dresses. In fact, I was about to ask you where you learnt dressmaking from! Didn't realise that you work in Fabricland. Have yet to make a trip up there...
ReplyDeleteI taught myself via the internet! I just started a fabricland...follow us on social media and take a peek!
DeleteAwesome! And in my favorite color! Putting this one on my "to buy" list!
ReplyDeletePlease can you tell me if you made any alterations to the pattern for it to fit so well?!
ReplyDeleteno changes! I think it must be the stretch fabric that makes it work so well.
Deleteoh I love it! and i've never seen a facing like that before - maybe if i had i'd be more prone to use them...
ReplyDeleteAwesome fit, amazing color! You go(go) girl!
ReplyDeleteI just saw this pattern in Joanns last week and fell in love with it. I would like to make one for myself but would need to add short sleeves. I have an arm phobia and will not wear anything that shows my arm, or arm pit area. Do you think it would be easy to add to the dress? It looks darling on you by the way:)
ReplyDeleteI think it might be difficult because the arm holes are sortof far in and because of the one piece facing. You will have to change the facing and then you can do it! good luck, can't wait to see!
DeleteI'm so glad you fell in love-at-first-sight with this pattern too! I feel like it's the perfect spring dress to show off bright colours and crazy prints! Your version fits your beautifully - You've got me thinking that a stretch fabric is the way to go! :)
ReplyDeleteThis dress is perfect on you! I added the pattern to my to-buy list as soon as a saw it had french darts. It's such a great shape!
ReplyDeleteI'm lovin' the pumped-up-apricot colour on you, and seam binding? Drool. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteI just bought this pattern today and I didn't know about the one piece facing....love...I can't wait to make it. You did a fantastic job!
ReplyDeleteTotally gorgeous love the colour and the features! Looks fantastic on you!
