<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Oh Hello new favorite jacket. I finished this last week and haven't really taken it off since. The pattern is the <a href="https://store.closetcasepatterns.com/products/kelly-anorak-jacket-pattern">Kelly Anorak </a>from Closet Case Patterns. Which is a little sporty for my style, but combined with the super girly and totally perfect canvas from the Cotton + Steel Rifle paper collaboration is true love. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JM_WcYRlxM0/WOjUYQ4ZlKI/AAAAAAAANMI/C6Bq7lx8_uQoPTRoRfF_FdRv1JYNV73WwCLcB/s1600/DSC_0249.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JM_WcYRlxM0/WOjUYQ4ZlKI/AAAAAAAANMI/C6Bq7lx8_uQoPTRoRfF_FdRv1JYNV73WwCLcB/s640/DSC_0249.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The pattern is very well written, which makes tackling something tricky so much less intimidating. This is probably the most tools I have used for a sewing project ever! The snaps and shortening my zipper had be running to my husbands tool box and making me feel like a bamf. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5eqGfYW89C8/WOjUeRZ6M0I/AAAAAAAANMQ/KPpMD4IisV4lxWT5Z_oCgOZIwWe1x13pgCLcB/s1600/DSC_0258.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5eqGfYW89C8/WOjUeRZ6M0I/AAAAAAAANMQ/KPpMD4IisV4lxWT5Z_oCgOZIwWe1x13pgCLcB/s640/DSC_0258.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> Oh yeah and another thing I've been working on lately.... a baby bump! This jacket still has some room to grow for the spring, and I added the double sided zipper so I could unzip and let the bump breathe. Baby boy is due in August, so I've been sewing a lot of Maternity clothes as well . </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U0aDVwFwCXE/WOjUa5siwOI/AAAAAAAANMM/mtV1TqhpH1gjBR8XAFlWtxGa7w1g3V1OQCLcB/s1600/DSC_0254.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U0aDVwFwCXE/WOjUa5siwOI/AAAAAAAANMM/mtV1TqhpH1gjBR8XAFlWtxGa7w1g3V1OQCLcB/s640/DSC_0254.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> Ok, the biggest change I made to the pattern was to sew the flat felled seams differently. I found, with the wise advice of my sewing guru, Nancy, that if you start with the seam WRONG sided together, then press trim and fold under and topstitch, the seams comes out much more professionally. They double line of stitching shows on the outside, more like a ready made garment. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xv8eX8dwO1k/WOjUigAkpdI/AAAAAAAANMU/aV8mGieEFowJFGoY6V9wqQw4pHzG-8qMQCLcB/s1600/DSC_0253.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xv8eX8dwO1k/WOjUigAkpdI/AAAAAAAANMU/aV8mGieEFowJFGoY6V9wqQw4pHzG-8qMQCLcB/s640/DSC_0253.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The only change I needed to make to the pattern was to make the sleeves bigger, which I always have to do with every sleeve. Since this is a two piece sleeve I only altered the top sleeve, which is the method that works for me. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5A6bkBWWXNQ/WOjUm7epPbI/AAAAAAAANMY/p2bqj5Pas_0DQg_wRzi3dQc_bc7Gy5owQCLcB/s1600/DSC_0263.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5A6bkBWWXNQ/WOjUm7epPbI/AAAAAAAANMY/p2bqj5Pas_0DQg_wRzi3dQc_bc7Gy5owQCLcB/s640/DSC_0263.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> The seams are all enclosed with either the flat felled seams or pink bias tape, making the inside just as pretty as the outside! I am so proud of how this came out, having sewing superpowers is the best ever, am I right?!</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6BoojbC6vHU/WBZXqmLvA-I/AAAAAAAANE4/IfnVobhjbcIP2elSe57q-Cusl1_KlMgmQCEw/s1600/DSC_0244.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6BoojbC6vHU/WBZXqmLvA-I/AAAAAAAANE4/IfnVobhjbcIP2elSe57q-Cusl1_KlMgmQCEw/s640/DSC_0244.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I never even knew I like bomber jackets and now I'm obsessed. I'm always looking for new classes to teach, and when McCall's 7100 came out I thought it would be a good class. Something a little bit different, simple to put together and would be cute on a lot of different people and ages. My classes are usually filled with everyone from tiny 12 year olds to adults making their first big project. I didn't really consider this jacket to be for me but as soon as I made it up I was hooked. I felt instantly cool. BOMBER JACKETS FOR EVERYONE!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sGd2DDR4XB0/WBZZNYPZGVI/AAAAAAAANFE/sqWnk3Hm80cxzrrqPafrGA99ZWdqMvdGACLcB/s1600/DSC_0247.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sGd2DDR4XB0/WBZZNYPZGVI/AAAAAAAANFE/sqWnk3Hm80cxzrrqPafrGA99ZWdqMvdGACLcB/s640/DSC_0247.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
The greatest thing about this pattern is that it can be made out of all the fabrics. This is my second version, a Halloweenish Cotton and Steel from the Boo collection. The black sleeves and the bands are both a knit ponte. I was careful to make sure all the stripes matched up when I was cutting out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z1TjKxx55Rs/WBaShIKKScI/AAAAAAAANFg/YGJpV9OQ3swxoO3BFZFfpJSJ6jFfgjQKQCLcB/s1600/DSC_0239.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z1TjKxx55Rs/WBaShIKKScI/AAAAAAAANFg/YGJpV9OQ3swxoO3BFZFfpJSJ6jFfgjQKQCLcB/s640/DSC_0239.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Since this pattern is cute in literally any fabric the possibilities are practically endless. I can have one for every holiday. It's cute over dresses too! Tomorrow is Halloween so I will wear my spiderweb dress and this jacket and be double the me made holiday cuteness. My class isn't until Decemeber so I am sure I will make some more before then.<br />

<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yb0qHyfZ6so/V9AjvLDyWPI/AAAAAAAANBc/zGrFjyFm6hE2w_sveHXKhKRfoGTe6FMQgCLcB/s1600/DSC_0166.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yb0qHyfZ6so/V9AjvLDyWPI/AAAAAAAANBc/zGrFjyFm6hE2w_sveHXKhKRfoGTe6FMQgCLcB/s640/DSC_0166.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One of the benefits of working for a fabric store, is that I've known about Rue for WEEKS. I kept a secret, that never happens! A super cute secret too! We ordered copies of the pattern right away, but I printed out a pdf so I could get started on the store sample. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cTJ9p6Tot9I/V9Aj-40bfVI/AAAAAAAANBg/HDZG46FPficbCtv0r9lU-7hgDP3WyvSaQCLcB/s1600/DSC_0176.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cTJ9p6Tot9I/V9Aj-40bfVI/AAAAAAAANBg/HDZG46FPficbCtv0r9lU-7hgDP3WyvSaQCLcB/s640/DSC_0176.JPG" width="425" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I know some people love pdfs but I am not one of them. I taped together 70 pages. It took all morning. And then there is no good way to fold and store them! So when the real copies came I made used one of them, so much better!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8kDYPryUZBQ/V9AkP-hgkwI/AAAAAAAANBk/jQIBV5-3AO0WdXeAcNhQ8Cbp3bvZ6zw3ACLcB/s1600/DSC_0168.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8kDYPryUZBQ/V9AkP-hgkwI/AAAAAAAANBk/jQIBV5-3AO0WdXeAcNhQ8Cbp3bvZ6zw3ACLcB/s640/DSC_0168.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This is version 1, the short sleeve with the pleated skirt. The other version has long sleeves with a more fitted skirt. The dress comes fully lined, with separate pattern pieces for the lining! Love that. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The fabric I used is a Cotton and Steel halloween-ish print which I think is cute all year long. If you look closely the bottles say things like eye-of-newt, but if you are not looking closely they look like perfume bottles and flowers. I also used piping on the neckline instead of the bust piece, it would have been weird for me with a fuller bust. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qpNKE9D88cc/V9AkVZ-OxdI/AAAAAAAANBo/MovV0XO1HKg3ZNCvC6T-ZbPnCbgDac2fwCLcB/s1600/DSC_0174.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qpNKE9D88cc/V9AkVZ-OxdI/AAAAAAAANBo/MovV0XO1HKg3ZNCvC6T-ZbPnCbgDac2fwCLcB/s640/DSC_0174.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I had a couple issues with the pattern, but nothing too major. The bodice meeting at a "V" was a problem. If you just pin the pieces together and sew the "V" ends up below the seam line. I had to fudge it so it would land on the 5/8"s. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I made a size 14, and a bodice muslin, so when I attached the skirt and the bodice and the waist was too big, I was not so happy. I had to take it in an inch on each side to fit. I also took off quite a few inches off the skirt before I cut it out, which I rarely do. I think it might have been 3"! So beware of that.<br />
<br />
I also need to tinker with the bodice fit a little more. I think if I lengthen the "v" shaped bodice so the tucks sit a little lower it would be better. I had to get this project done in time for the release and I was too excited to spend the time to tinker! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BtXqB1zq6h4/V9AkXe8fdhI/AAAAAAAANBs/rbQMIIfMOUoNMOilOhq_yzpWSlHMhtRSgCLcB/s1600/DSC_0177.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BtXqB1zq6h4/V9AkXe8fdhI/AAAAAAAANBs/rbQMIIfMOUoNMOilOhq_yzpWSlHMhtRSgCLcB/s640/DSC_0177.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I also chose to only line the bodice. Way less fabric, and easier to iron, when it's a finished product. I used a green cotton, that is so fine it's almost like a cotton-silk blend. It's so divine, I want to line everything in this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a0xS8_U5lUE/V9AkdFwLEoI/AAAAAAAANBw/K9oCnzrI3uUVLaogGw1JtQFF8lfxwFdAgCLcB/s1600/DSC_0182.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a0xS8_U5lUE/V9AkdFwLEoI/AAAAAAAANBw/K9oCnzrI3uUVLaogGw1JtQFF8lfxwFdAgCLcB/s640/DSC_0182.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
All the supplies for the dress are from Fabricland, (the NJ one, Canada). My dress will be on display there untill November, when we are having a <a href="http://fabricland.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=86_89&products_id=697">class</a> for Rue! I am teaching it, so it will be super fun!<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've made a lot of dresses this summer and blogged only a few. Mostly because I've been taking pictures and then they don't look as good as I thought they should. So I'm just gonna show this dress even though the pictures aren't top notch. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I really like the corset detail and the waist and the peasant style bust. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Idw1FRyQBq4/V8rNT16z_fI/AAAAAAAANAQ/eOTiXRYfE3kRZSrc4n65ViyAo6NcSLUYgCLcB/s1600/DSC_0158.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Idw1FRyQBq4/V8rNT16z_fI/AAAAAAAANAQ/eOTiXRYfE3kRZSrc4n65ViyAo6NcSLUYgCLcB/s640/DSC_0158.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I spent most of the time on this dress plaid matching. The fabric is a very light-weight almost seersucker cotton. It matches up on all the sideseams, the entire center back and the corset part is cut on the bias, and the plaids match there too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mw6oHy65QDc/V8rP4QczPTI/AAAAAAAANAg/LUa3XC5tdU4CQrhB88zyQIunOO2vMzmDACLcB/s1600/DSC_0157.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mw6oHy65QDc/V8rP4QczPTI/AAAAAAAANAg/LUa3XC5tdU4CQrhB88zyQIunOO2vMzmDACLcB/s640/DSC_0157.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

I added 2.5" to raise the bust, otherwise it would have been quite indecent. It does fall off my shoulders a little bit so I would gather the neck a little more and make the bias tape a little shorter to compensate. I also had to hem it twice, the first time it was way too long and unflattering. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Adding the grommets to the corset was easy, except that I felt they were a little loose and went back and hammered them on a hard surface and half the paint fell off. Then it was hard to get the ribbon I originally picked out to fit. I used an 1/8th inch ribbon in hot pink. </div>

I sewed this dress in under 24 hours in the beginning of the summer so I guess it was quite easy. I've been wearing it once a week all summer, so its been a successful make.</div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Summertime is made for rompers. Throw it on, super comfy, in a no ironing knit fabric. This is the Sallie jumpsuit<a href="http://closetcasefiles.com/hacking-the-sallie-jumpsuit-into-a-romper-pattern/"> hack </a>into a romper from Closet Case Files. It's so fabulous that this is my second version.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The fabric was love at first sight. Flamingos are my favorite and I love the look of Charley Harper art. The fabric is an organic knit from Birch fabrics. Its very soft, and almost like a sweatshirt material. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For this version I followed Heather's directions and made a <a href="http://closetcasefiles.com/how-to-sew-knit-binding-on-a-v-or-mitered-neckline/">knit binding</a> for the v-neck. I love the trick at the end for making the v-neck pointy instead of a curve. I hemmed the sleeves and the shorts using my trusty double knit needle.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I also made sure all my flamingo stripes matched up. I bought two yards of this fabric at Rock Paper Scissors in Montclair NJ, and used up every inch of it. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This version was actually my first, and I used my precious knit fabric I bought in Italy one year ago, (ahh take me back). <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I made this version like the original sallie jumpsuit, the bodice is self lined, no knit binding. I liked doing the knit binding but I think this version gaps less. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Happy Summer sewists! It's my favorite sewing season, there are so many fun things to sew, like this new BEACH DRESS! I'm straight out of Beach Blanket Bingo right now and loving it. You will find me frolicking along the Jersey Shore in this all summer long. </span></div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The pattern is a vintage re-release from Simplicity, <a href="http://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-pattern-8139-misses-vintage-bathing-dress-and-beach-coat/8139.html#start=10">8139</a>. The bathing dress and beach coat pattern is from the 1950's. I love that I get to recreate this vintage look, because it's something I'd never be able to find in my size normally. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jKLhr4Bvfcs/V4Y9rymuL7I/AAAAAAAAM7w/PzWVVSH6op84Y-CEfbwkRkRhRdCSH6YiwCLcB/s1600/DSC_0068.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jKLhr4Bvfcs/V4Y9rymuL7I/AAAAAAAAM7w/PzWVVSH6op84Y-CEfbwkRkRhRdCSH6YiwCLcB/s640/DSC_0068.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The dress is made with seersucker and has a full knit romper lining underneath, I had to make a few adjustments to get it to fit. I had to add two inches of length to the bra cups to cover everything up there. And then I had to add another inch to the bodice length because of my long torso. After I made it I had to take off some shoulder length to keep the back from gaping. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8Mv86K5My78/V4Y6a4S-ijI/AAAAAAAAM7U/df7ybkqBP1ssQ3qOXFBPFIToO-5OUTFHQCLcB/s1600/DSC_0086.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8Mv86K5My78/V4Y6a4S-ijI/AAAAAAAAM7U/df7ybkqBP1ssQ3qOXFBPFIToO-5OUTFHQCLcB/s640/DSC_0086.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The bust portion is made to be gathered. Kind of like the Sweetheart Sundress from Gertie's first book. I hand sewed some stitches to either side of the center front seam and pulled to gather them. Then the bow is tied around the bust. There is a whole left under the bust to slide the sash though. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4nILHeWiQho/V4Y6cvIiSGI/AAAAAAAAM7Y/H-K4j0MYrf8JF9L5nUu5ReIppFcCWkI7gCLcB/s1600/DSC_0075.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4nILHeWiQho/V4Y6cvIiSGI/AAAAAAAAM7Y/H-K4j0MYrf8JF9L5nUu5ReIppFcCWkI7gCLcB/s640/DSC_0075.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I finished the hem with rick rack, because everything is better with rick rack. I love having the knit romper under the short skirt, I am free to frolic without worrying about wind and such. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rr2huS6-0yk/V4Y6h6FTe6I/AAAAAAAAM7c/u7icY-OhgAIZyPvmZILONN8CxeflDUZ-QCLcB/s1600/DSC_0082.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rr2huS6-0yk/V4Y6h6FTe6I/AAAAAAAAM7c/u7icY-OhgAIZyPvmZILONN8CxeflDUZ-QCLcB/s640/DSC_0082.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I made a beach coat to match too! It's perfect for going from early morning "chill" to later when its hotter on the beach. I made it with a terrycloth outer and the seersucker lining. It has a button closure, over-sized pockets, with more rick rack, and sleeves that you roll up to have cuffs. </span></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This is so comfortable, and I have already worn it a lot, lounging on the deck, riding my bike around and at the bay beach. I want to add rompers under all my clothes now. What do you guys sew in the summer?</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It's finally spring! Time for sundresses everyday. I made another version of McCall's 6887, my third version. The other dresses are Halloween and fall appropriate. M6887 is just a simple scoop neck princess seam bodice with a paneled full-ish skirt. Sometimes it's just time to whip up something you know will fit and be cute. </span></div>

It has dancing yarn balls on it! This is basically what my house looks like. Just yarn in every corner. So obviously I had to incorporate yarn into this dress somehow! I took a Madelinetosh Unicorn tail in the color Pop Rocks, and knitted a 4 stitch I-cord. I knitted almost the entire skein, cast off and then did another cord for the bow. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S68MFlt2B2k/Vv3M9W6yZcI/AAAAAAAAMaI/W92q7EQCtCgT9Nw2qy8sIuCOOvMlm-xkg/s1600/DSC_0212.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-S68MFlt2B2k/Vv3M9W6yZcI/AAAAAAAAMaI/W92q7EQCtCgT9Nw2qy8sIuCOOvMlm-xkg/s640/DSC_0212.JPG" width="426" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9_iJpobHh1g/Vv3M_Cr6iGI/AAAAAAAAMaM/puhO6ycEnR8zU6L92ERs8EMGDtotmuYfw/s1600/DSC_0211.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9_iJpobHh1g/Vv3M_Cr6iGI/AAAAAAAAMaM/puhO6ycEnR8zU6L92ERs8EMGDtotmuYfw/s640/DSC_0211.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I then gave the I-cord a really good steaming, hopefully that shrunk it up, making it ok to wash. The cord was pinned and machine stitched into place after the front bodice was assembled. (I promise that is not a pucker in the princess seam, just an unfortunate wrinkle after wearing it all day). </span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rvuPSJ5_SXs/Vv5v2PSQiII/AAAAAAAAMak/vvYu3ox_db8YMRapUbe-OkQS2aPi5hirQ/s1600/DSC_0206.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rvuPSJ5_SXs/Vv5v2PSQiII/AAAAAAAAMak/vvYu3ox_db8YMRapUbe-OkQS2aPi5hirQ/s640/DSC_0206.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The neckline is finished with bias tape, mine is navy polka dot of course. Just a cute surprise you can see when it's hanging on the hanger. I love this dress because it combines two craft universes. I might have to knit trim for every dress now! </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Hey! I finished a sweater. When I saw the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ebba-4">Ebba Sweater</a> while perusing Raverly for a new project it was true love. So much so that I immediately bought the pattern and the same yarn in the same colors. The pattern and they yarn are both from Quince & Co, which was a new to me yarn brand that I was very happy with. 100% made in America yarn, at a reasonable price, yes please.</span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zmLW1q8L_M0/VsSA6n6PNNI/AAAAAAAAMWg/6IIbowIRRmQ/s1600/DSC_0196.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="306" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zmLW1q8L_M0/VsSA6n6PNNI/AAAAAAAAMWg/6IIbowIRRmQ/s640/DSC_0196.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The yarn is called<a href="http://quinceandco.com/collections/yarn/products/chickadee-yarn-wool"> Chickadee</a> which is a sport weight wool yarn, very classic and old school. I really liked how it knit up, and looked even better when it was blocked. I was surprised when the yarn was delivered that the lightest color was a light blue not a whiteish color like it looks like in the pattern picture.</span></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yS180NUyYpw/VsSA6vKXbEI/AAAAAAAAMWk/AM6aAl0Vurs/s1600/DSC_0197.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yS180NUyYpw/VsSA6vKXbEI/AAAAAAAAMWk/AM6aAl0Vurs/s640/DSC_0197.JPG" width="510" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This sweater was my first time steeking! I was a little hesitant at first but then found it to be super easy. Steeking is basically knitting a tube and then cutting it open later to insert the sleeves. That first little snip really got my heart pumping! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The biggest problem I had with this sweater was the amount of yarn it called for. I bought exactly what the pattern called for (knowing it was way too much) knitted with the correct gauge and ended up with FIVE extra skeins of yarn. My size told me to buy 10 skeins of the light blue, 2 of the dark blue and 1 red. I had 4 of the light blue left and 1 dark blue. GRRR. I contacted Quince and co and they fixed the yarn amount and let me exchange the yarn. I just hope that since it was a pattern released by the pattern company they weren't inflating the numbers to sell more yarn. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">But now I have more issues with the exchange. Double GRRR. I picked out a fingering weight for my next colorwork project. Poppy and Bird's Egg are the colors, which looked cute together online. But when they came the colors were darker than picture and did not look good together. So I returned them for a store credit last week, but haven't heard anything back yet. A lot of trips to the post office for yarn!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Anyway, this is a super cute pattern and a great intro to steeking with instructions and an online tutorial too! It's warm without being hot, and so far has washed really well. I took these pictures when the snowfall was pretty in the morning before melting away in the afternoon. This winter has been weird. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Oh hey 2016, how would you like a blog post? I've been making things this whole time but my pictures have not been cooperating. But this coat is too cute not to show off! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Uzr8qhQswiM/VrSibd36v2I/AAAAAAAAMVY/aW6YldevexE/s640/blogger-image-1592768221.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Uzr8qhQswiM/VrSibd36v2I/AAAAAAAAMVY/aW6YldevexE/s640/blogger-image-1592768221.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The pattern is a vintage one I scored off of Etsy, Simplicity 3622. I shortened it so it would end at the hip. This is my first time really jumping in and working with plaid. I just haven't been that into it, but this wool is irresistible. Working at a fabric store is dangerous, every time I walked by the wool section I could picture the coat in my head. I wanted a classic jacket, and this black and white plaid is perfect for it. Cutting it out was a bit nerve-wracking. There is a lot to think about, what needs to match up and where to line up the bolder stripe.</span></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FfUvtlxB1pk/VrNexnce7BI/AAAAAAAAMQU/7c7Y8n2b5x0/s1600/DSC_0179.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FfUvtlxB1pk/VrNexnce7BI/AAAAAAAAMQU/7c7Y8n2b5x0/s640/DSC_0179.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I cut out the wool using the tutorial from <a href="http://sewaholic.net/matching-plaids-a-step-by-step-guide-on-plaid-matching/">Sewaholic</a>. Pinning the plaids stripes together so you can cut the pieces doubled. This was easy and all of my pieces are identical. Then I just made sure my notches were at the same spot for pieces that would be connected.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AnZWQNjod_g/VrNe04VqUVI/AAAAAAAAMQk/ewX035CTkZc/s1600/DSC_0180.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AnZWQNjod_g/VrNe04VqUVI/AAAAAAAAMQk/ewX035CTkZc/s640/DSC_0180.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The welt pockets went in easily, I followed the directions that came with the pattern, Vintage patterns have the best directions. They don't skip over steps to make it "Sew Easy". For the bags of the pockets I used black pocketing fabric I bought from etsy. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kaWKkqpErVc/VrNe3kC-_7I/AAAAAAAAMQo/lEdIwHFarjY/s1600/DSC_0181.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kaWKkqpErVc/VrNe3kC-_7I/AAAAAAAAMQo/lEdIwHFarjY/s640/DSC_0181.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For the interfacing I mainly followed the pattern's directions are using muslin for interfacing and basted it on. I used fusible interfacing for the peter pan color, and the hems. The sleeves were eased in trying to match the stripes up as best as possible. Then I added the sleeve heads.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The buttons were difficult to pick out. Black, just faded away, different colors weren't working so eventually I picked these tan buttons. That's the good thing about working at a fabric store, you can obsess over buttons everyday until you finally pick the right ones. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The lining is a sunback satin in a cream color. The coat is warm but not a full on winter coat warm. I wanted it to fit over some of my bulkier sweaters so that will keep me extra warm. The pattern included directions to add the back pleat, something which is missing from most of new the coat patterns I have seen. I always add a pleat and a back stay out of muslin. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This sweater is two years in the making! I started it in AUGUST 2013. I knit the entire back, and started the front and then just left it for two years. I picked it up again in October and finished it quickly, I don't know why I was putting it off! </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The pattern is from<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/a-stitch-in-time-vintage-knitting-patterns"> Stitch in Time vol. 2</a>, a lovely book with a lot of cute vintage knitting patterns in it. Most of them are knit with the tiniest needles. This is the Dinah's Lacey Sweater a pattern from the 1930s. It was actually very simple to make but the tiny needles needed, size 3, made me put it down for two years, The stitch is a twisted lacy rib. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The yarn is an angora wool blend from <span style="background-color: white;">St Magnus D.K. I made a hat out of this a few years ago and dreamt of a sweater from it ever since. It's so soft and fluffy! It's not itchy at all, I love wearing it. I had to order it from Dragon Yarns in </span></span><span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Gloucestershire, UK. I can't find it anywhere in the US, and I had to patiently wait for it to come. And then the post office held it hostage because they wanted a signature! AHH! I wish somewhere closer sold it. but I would totally buy it again, it's so lovely.</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: white;">I made some minor changes to the pattern. I didn't make the short sleeves as long as the picture. Maybe that was a mistake, as I kinda look big in the sweater but whatever. I also didn't put a button and loop and then neck. I'm not about being choked by my sweaters. </span></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-align: justify;">The only downside is that it kinda stretches out as you wear it. The sleeves did not look this huge after if finished it. But blocking a sweater always makes it look different. I'm just gonna roll with it and not let it bother me. </span></div>

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-N05Km1BCO00/ViQtVm1RSQI/AAAAAAAAMFw/m4irMbLeqNI/s1600/DSC_0123.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-N05Km1BCO00/ViQtVm1RSQI/AAAAAAAAMFw/m4irMbLeqNI/s640/DSC_0123.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here it is the famous <a href="http://shop.cashmerette.com/products/appleton-dress-printed-pattern">Appleton dress</a>! When I saw the announcement for a new pattern line from Cashmerette of a new pattern line where you wouldn't have to do a fba I jumped at the chance. Then I saw that there was a kit, so I quickly clicked buy before it sold out. I am tired of making decisions lately and a kit sounded perfect to me. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The fabric is a black rayon spandex with white birds flying all over it. The fabric is lightweight and thin but not too thin. It's not the softest fabric, but it is still nice to wear. Looks like its sold out right now, so I guess there will be a lot of twins on the internet! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EANu1OSuqXk/ViQtbsOCTsI/AAAAAAAAMGA/zW9VMtwIKck/s1600/DSC_0118.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EANu1OSuqXk/ViQtbsOCTsI/AAAAAAAAMGA/zW9VMtwIKck/s640/DSC_0118.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I used the largest cup size, in size 14. I initially graded out in the hips but it made a weird bubble, and wasn't working, so I trimmed it back down on the serger. The 14 fits fine in the hips so I guess I didn't need to grade up.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ay8slj3jZEc/ViQtfv8hJiI/AAAAAAAAMGI/CSN3DeCPK40/s1600/DSC_0122.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ay8slj3jZEc/ViQtfv8hJiI/AAAAAAAAMGI/CSN3DeCPK40/s640/DSC_0122.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The wrap definitely hugs the top and stays closed. I did wear a tank top under it, I'm not used to wearing a top so low. Next time I will make a full bicep adjustment. I was hoping I wouldn't have to being a knit, and that these patterns are for curvy ladies, but I guess I'm too curvy in the arms. Bleh, I think I hate adjusting sleeves as much as an FBA. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Bhhc-MqY_sM/ViQthHQefAI/AAAAAAAAMGQ/9C8Nwi5ZYXY/s1600/DSC_0128.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Bhhc-MqY_sM/ViQthHQefAI/AAAAAAAAMGQ/9C8Nwi5ZYXY/s640/DSC_0128.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The printed pattern came with the kit, and I love the way it's set up. The colorful book, the envelope, its all adorable. My only quibble is the glue on the pattern envelope. I had such a hard time trying to open it! Anyone else have this issue?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I made the whole thing on the serger, and used a double needle for all the hemming and topstitching. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen me using wonder clips with the serger. I still feel the need to pin with knits, especially with the sleeves and matching up notches. And using wonder clips instead of pins is a foolproof way not to run them over with the serger. Pins are easy to overlook, but not wonder clips. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The directions were clear, the only part I had to stop and think about was sewing the ties to the neck pieces. But after my coffee in the morning I read the directions again, and got it. Late night sewing is not a good time for direction reading. The neckline is stretched to fit, and the fabric wouldn't stay still so I basted it with the machine first and then serged over the basting. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I wore this dress out on Saturday, which was a cold and windy night. Woo, you have to be careful in this dress when the wind blows! I am happy to have a basic wrap dress that fits well and I can rely on to throw on and go out and look gooooooood. This dress came together in two short sessions, I actually made two dress this week, this one and my cotton and steel picnic dress, so it is a quick and satisfying project. </span></div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-t4mx5H6jkoA/VJnp_1kloRI/AAAAAAAADx4/JdGS9ymZOH4/s1600/DSC_0117.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-t4mx5H6jkoA/VJnp_1kloRI/AAAAAAAADx4/JdGS9ymZOH4/s1600/DSC_0117.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Oh hello there. I'm back with another holiday dress. That's all I seem to post lately. This dress is the dresss of my Christmas dreams. I fell in love with the fabric at Fabricland and snatched up a few yards of it. It was on a mysterious bolt, and seems to be a vintage repro fabric. It is a very light quilt weight cotton, 45" wide. Fabricland also happened to have rick rack and buttons that perfectly match so score.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u5ziCirqHL4/VJnq-L1yB5I/AAAAAAAADyc/bfw7H2SuTv0/s1600/DSC_0120.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="428" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u5ziCirqHL4/VJnq-L1yB5I/AAAAAAAADyc/bfw7H2SuTv0/s1600/DSC_0120.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wanted to make something vintage looking to go with the dress, but the subtle stripes kept me from choosing anything with princess seams. Then I remembered Butterick 9566 in my stash, and did a quick fba and muslin. The bust darts were very pointy, so I angled them down to make a french dart instead which worked much better for me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-9Dhuib2QHUc/VJnxCiLeCNI/AAAAAAAADzc/k78ZZrTq1tQ/s640/blogger-image-1607435264.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-9Dhuib2QHUc/VJnxCiLeCNI/AAAAAAAADzc/k78ZZrTq1tQ/s640/blogger-image-1607435264.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made the dress a little differently than the directions, mainly because I didn't want to deal with the opening in the front of the skirt. So I made an invisible zipper in the back, and the bodice is just attached to the front so the whole thing doesn't hang open. The skirt is also from a modern pattern because I need to be able to move in this dress and didn't want to deal with all the fabric. The bodice is underlined in yellow, which makes the unusual color stripes pop a bit more, and the skirt is lined with the same. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think I look like I belong in one of my favorite Christmas movies; Pee Wee's Christmas Special, which is now streaming on netflix. Miss Yvonne and Annette Funicello have such great costumes in this movie!</div>

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas! </div>

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-voc9HbO17Mc/Vh1rY1pvy3I/AAAAAAAAME4/yYcFb3-PlAA/s1600/DSC_0110.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-voc9HbO17Mc/Vh1rY1pvy3I/AAAAAAAAME4/yYcFb3-PlAA/s640/DSC_0110.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">AHH! This dress came out better than I expected, don't you love when that happens? I have been dreaming of this dress for months waiting for the Cotton + Steel fabric to arrive at Fabricland (we had to wait for the second printing!). I just love the vintage vibe to it, I mean it has Pyrex on it! When it finally arrived the print was a lot bigger than I was imagining, so I was stumped of what dress to make with it. Finally I remembered Butterick 9566.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is my second version of Vintage Butterick 9566. The first one is my <a href="http://www.erikamadeit.com/2014/12/christmas-dress-vintage-butterick-9566.html">Christmas dress</a>, which is one of my favorite dresses, so I thought another one was in order! The bodice was already fitted, I did an FBA, and made the sleeves bigger than the original pattern. I also angled the bust dart more like a french dart, which I think gives it such a good fit. There is only thing I need to change about the pattern if I make it again, the sleeve has too much ease, it's hard to get it to fit without any blips. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1GwZwJK_NME/Vh1rahUKnGI/AAAAAAAAMFA/HKrFkTGUELs/s1600/DSC_0111.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1GwZwJK_NME/Vh1rahUKnGI/AAAAAAAAMFA/HKrFkTGUELs/s640/DSC_0111.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> What I like most about the pattern, is the opportunity to add my favorite thing: RICK RACK. I think I bought 6 yards of this rick rack which is woven in different pastel colors, and that still wasn't enough. I was planning on doing another row at the hem so I might go and buy some more for that. The rick rack is all around the neckline, down the front of the buttonhole side bodice, around the sleeves and all around the hem. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VrQzhsvv-qs/Vh1rc8LSKKI/AAAAAAAAMFI/4AU3xmPt9zo/s1600/DSC_0117.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VrQzhsvv-qs/Vh1rc8LSKKI/AAAAAAAAMFI/4AU3xmPt9zo/s640/DSC_0117.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The buttons are adorable and very special. They are from the world famous sewing cave of Diary of a Sewing Fanatic! Thanks Carolyn! I had these in my stash and they are the perfect thing, so lucky!</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FGt8mrB2GZY/Vh1rfYTA3UI/AAAAAAAAMFQ/4iOKiPs09bc/s1600/DSC_0116.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FGt8mrB2GZY/Vh1rfYTA3UI/AAAAAAAAMFQ/4iOKiPs09bc/s640/DSC_0116.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DZ_LZosBluk/Vh1rhHO1XlI/AAAAAAAAMFY/SZ_bvtDmk04/s1600/DSC_0113.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DZ_LZosBluk/Vh1rhHO1XlI/AAAAAAAAMFY/SZ_bvtDmk04/s640/DSC_0113.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Needless to say, I am very happy with the dress and thinking of more versions of it! </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><div style="text-align: justify;">
It is super hard to find cute dresses out there people. That's how I got guilted into making this dress for my mother. Last September my parents had a wedding to go to. She was looking for a dress for over a month and couldn't find anything. We live 15 minutes from three different malls. She looked in Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Macy's, like everywhere. She was getting so desperate she was trying on $500 dresses just to see! There are no dresses out there. Ok, the dresses that are out there are either navy, which doesn't look good on her, looks like a Real Housewife dress or are totally frumpy. So finally I said "UGH, fine I guess I have to make you a dress". Aren't I just the sweetest?</div>
</span><div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-641_-iAfiOE/VhhkEnWnwTI/AAAAAAAAMD0/KVEDwRqrAcU/s1600/DSC_0080.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-641_-iAfiOE/VhhkEnWnwTI/AAAAAAAAMD0/KVEDwRqrAcU/s640/DSC_0080.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div>
<br /><div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">We choose this fabric Rayon asian inspired fabric from Fabricland in NJ. They even had the perfect crinkley silk chiffon print for a luxurious wrap to match. After searching in the pattern books for a while we finally settled on <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v8972-products-47949.php?page_id=855">Vogue 8972</a>. It is a simple shape, I like how it has the different cup sizes, so it would be easy to fit. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WW5e3_GILSw/VhhkLejL4II/AAAAAAAAMEE/HEz1deX4v_0/s1600/DSC_0081.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WW5e3_GILSw/VhhkLejL4II/AAAAAAAAMEE/HEz1deX4v_0/s640/DSC_0081.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm so used to fitting myself it's weird doing it to someone else. I cut out the C cup bodice, and made her a muslin. After a little tweaking, the dress came together quickly. It's fully lined in rayon bemberg, and all the seams are topstitched. I used my new edgestitch foot to get the seams perfect. </span></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The wrap is a yard and a half of fabric, and I just used the narrow hem foot all the way around to finish it. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wgJx-L0CqX4/VhhkHCrhMPI/AAAAAAAAMD8/_qQliaIyibs/s1600/DSC_0083.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wgJx-L0CqX4/VhhkHCrhMPI/AAAAAAAAMD8/_qQliaIyibs/s640/DSC_0083.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">She had another wedding to go to this past weekend so I finally got a chance to take her picture. The fabric has a sheen to it so it seems lumpy in places, but I promise the fit is perfect. There are a lot of seams in this dress, and they intercept at the hips, so I had to go back and trim some more before she wore it again and everything lays flat now. Well I think she looks very glamorous, and she feels good in it too! Don't get used to it Mom, it's back to selfish sewing for me!</span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Ok, I'm in love. THIS DRESS IS LIKE MY DREAM. The wedding was this Saturday, and I finished the dress Wednesday. Like fully finished, hook and eyes, three narrow hems for outer, interlining and lining, and a waist stay. I usually would leave those kinds of those kinds of things until the the last minute, so progress!</span> </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I am thrilled with how the <a href="http://www.erikamadeit.com/2015/09/butterick-5814-making-bodice.html">pattern alterations</a> came out. The bodice fits like a glove, after I fixed some minor problems with the front right drape. There was too much fabric and it was pooling by the waistline and the side seam. I had to take the skirt off and undo the side seam a bit and sew the extra fabric in the seam.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> That was the most stressful part. It was coming out perfectly and then I went to try it on after I put the invisible zipper in and EEK! But with the helping hands of a friend, she was able to pin the excess fabric for me while I was wearing the dress. The problem was solved easily after that. Not sure why it didn't show up in the muslin stage, must be the difference in the drape of the fabric. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Fx79NNdx6qo/VglA0HA9ZmI/AAAAAAAAMCs/aUBgM6K5-2w/s1600/DSC_0042.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Fx79NNdx6qo/VglA0HA9ZmI/AAAAAAAAMCs/aUBgM6K5-2w/s640/DSC_0042.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The fabric for this dress is a Liberty of London silk, fully underlined and lined. The bodice is underlined with a drapey rayon. It was the only fabric I found that still let the bodice have the drape it needed. The pleated circle skirt is underlined with a silk faille. It gives it body like a taffeta would but without all that taffeta noise. The dress is fully lined with rayon bemberg in a coordinating blue. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The skirt is my first official pattern draft! Its a basic circle skirt and then you make the waist bigger so it can be pleated. And of course it has pockets! I will do do another post on this if you guys are interested.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The wedding was really fun, my hubby was an usher in it, and we accidentally matched! His tie was the perfect match to the blue in the fabric. I can't wait for another chance to wear this dress! </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm in the mood for couture, darlings! It has been such a long time since I have made a project, taken my time and done anything really special. I have a wedding coming up this month, and with this Liberty silk from my stash it was the perfect opportunity to make something fabulous.</span><br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jRmPxbA1fhs/Vfl7VT3cYEI/AAAAAAAAL-4/cOW7OXf5IGU/s1600/IMG_3962.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jRmPxbA1fhs/Vfl7VT3cYEI/AAAAAAAAL-4/cOW7OXf5IGU/s640/IMG_3962.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I bought this fabric from <a href="https://www.fabric.com/buy/0400242/liberty-of-london-silk-crepe-de-chine-la-belle-brown">Fabric.com,</a> months ago, when it was on sale, and I used something like an extra 15% off it, so I snatched up four yards. Plus, I used ebates so I got 3% back! I love hydrangeas, and I thought it was the most dreamy print ever. I was expecting the Liberty tana lawn magic to be translated into silk magic, but it is only a regular silk. It's not especially dreamy like Liberty cotton. Oh well, I'm still crazy for the print. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I've been searching the internets for the perfect pattern for this fabric, nothing was the right floatyness, or the right style or whatever. This wedding is fast approaching so I decided to muslin the bodice of Butterick 5814, a pattern by Gertie. I like the bodice, but the skirt is not what I was picturing so I have to think of something to do for that. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I started with the size 18 for the bodice, and just made it just like the pattern, expecting scary results. Woah that baby is low, like REALLY LOW. Not suitable for anytime. But other than that, the fit is ok. The sleeves are a little tight on my giant guns, and my bra straps show in the front. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The first thing i did was to raise the front pieces so the neckline would be about 3" higher. Then I did a 1" FBA. But I didn't want a bust dart, so I would stick to the original look. My pattern looks a little crazy in the end but I swear it works. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ki1hMvb8FSw/Vfl7tYz5qgI/AAAAAAAAL_A/-AkzERRXPKw/s1600/DSC_0022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ki1hMvb8FSw/Vfl7tYz5qgI/AAAAAAAAL_A/-AkzERRXPKw/s640/DSC_0022.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I cut the silk out backed with a roll of unprinted newspaper. Cutting through the paper and the silk helps it from wiggling all over the place. The silk doesn't have enough body to drape on it's own so I knew I had to add underlining. It was a bit of a debate of what fabric to use. Silk organza was too still, just plain muslin wasn't quite right either and then I remembered about rayon! Fabricland has plain white rayon, which had the perfect amount of body and is something like $7 a yard, score! I hand basted all of the bodice pieces to the rayon pieces. I also stitched twill tape to the neckline pieces, like<a href="http://www.blogforbettersewing.com/2012/11/stabilizing-v-neck-with-twill-tape.html"> Gertie demonstrated on her blog</a>. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xAFLsa2xSgI/Vfl86syzlBI/AAAAAAAAL_M/cB_vBlLUXnc/s1600/DSC_0021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xAFLsa2xSgI/Vfl86syzlBI/AAAAAAAAL_M/cB_vBlLUXnc/s640/DSC_0021.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">After I was done with all the hand stitching, the actual machine sewing came together quickly. I pinned it to my dressform to have a look. Still have some hand-sewing to do, and then I can move on to the skirt. I've already drafted it, and will explain in another post. </span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Woah summer has just flown by. I missed the whole month of August on here! Well I've still been sewing, just haven't got a chance to photograph anything. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So I'm back with something a little crazy. I got this BRIGHT rayon from Fabricland, it was only 8.99 a yard. I scooped it up as soon as it came into the store, that's the benefit of working in a fabric store. I rarely pick out fabric with no plan, so I was flipping through the vogue book for ideas and I saw <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v1448-products-49829.php?page_id=313&search_control=display&list=search">1448</a>, which was something a little different for me. Of course my fabric choice would turn it into a Carmen Miranda style dress. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> <a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uW_g5g5NwSs/VehI7hr1KVI/AAAAAAAAL9k/__Oa_zC2uv4/s640/blogger-image--1144171189.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uW_g5g5NwSs/VehI7hr1KVI/AAAAAAAAL9k/__Oa_zC2uv4/s1600/blogger-image--1144171189.jpg" /></a></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L_AMg_rNbZs/VecUHdMDmGI/AAAAAAAAL8I/TsiqxZ_-njU/s1600/DSC_0008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L_AMg_rNbZs/VecUHdMDmGI/AAAAAAAAL8I/TsiqxZ_-njU/s640/DSC_0008.JPG" width="426" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I made a muslin of the bodice, and obviously I needed to do an FBA. But uh oh there is no dart. I could have added a dart, but I wanted it to look like the original. All the cool kids can go around with no darts, so that's what I wanted to do! I cut and slashed and added a third pleat to accommodate the excess. Now I can be cool with no darts. The only other thing it needed was a little tack to keep the wrap together. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The bodice is lined, I couldn't find a color that was right for the yellow so I went with white. My go-to lining is Robert Kaufman Savannah. Omg its the lightest softest cotton, and perfect for lining. It's only like 6.99 a yard or something. </span></div>

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The skirt is the most fun. It is three layers of skirt on the front and the back, all with a narrow hem. I am very thankful for the Bernina narrow hem foot, which I finally mastered. It has these pockets in the front, which don't even fit a phone, so they are kind useless. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">PLEASE NOTE: I found a mistake in the pattern, The front peplum piece 6 should say cut 2 not cut 1. GRRR. I didn't figure that out until I was piecing the skirt together. AND I WAS OUT OF FABRIC. If I didn't have to go to work that day, and knew we had more of the fabric, I would have been in trouble. (I have emailed Vogue about the mistake and they said they are fixing it in future patterns.) </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It was fun to make something a little more complicated than the average dress. It's a fun dress to go out to dinner in, and I wore it a lot on my trip to Italy this summer. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I enjoyed making the Carolyn Pajamas so much that when Closet Case Files came out with the Sallie Jumpsuit/ Maxidress, I was excited to make this as well. I have never really made a maxi dress or a jumpsuit, or worn one for that matter. I am happy to report that this really is like wearing secret pajamas. I feel like I am curled up in my bed, but instead I am out in public with a cocktail in my hand. Sometimes its fun to look ridiculous. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I chose this rayon knit in a magenta/ peach floral print from Fabricland. Its so soft and very lightweight. And man does it remind me of Mrs. Roper from Three's Company. It was difficult to choose between the jumpsuit and the maxidress, both would look cute in this fabric. but I decided to go for the jumpsuit, for the full 70s look. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SaaxXAMsBf0/Vawd-dnSLAI/AAAAAAAAL1k/uKK-xzi2q2U/s1600/DSC_0543.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="572" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SaaxXAMsBf0/Vawd-dnSLAI/AAAAAAAAL1k/uKK-xzi2q2U/s640/DSC_0543.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I made a few changes to the pattern before I started. I didn't want that tie in the back, I'm planning on wearing this on a long airplane ride and thought the tie would be annoying at my neck. So I raised the back up 1 inch to prevent it from falling off my shoulders without the tie. I can still get it on and off easily. Then I needed to add some length to the crotch. (bleh I hate that word). I am long in the torso, so I can't really buy a romper/jumpsuit with out getting the dreaded cameltoe. I added two inches, which was a bit excessive, i probably could have used 1.5 (next time). I also took 3 inches off the pant length. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fe6Kali6jCw/VaweP6KFxtI/AAAAAAAAL1s/NdW8kjhhgCY/s1600/DSC_0548.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fe6Kali6jCw/VaweP6KFxtI/AAAAAAAAL1s/NdW8kjhhgCY/s640/DSC_0548.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is a really quick sew, but I had a few problems. First I made the bodice and I slip it on and the sleeve openings are too tight. All of the sizes have the marks for the opening at the same spot. Next time I will leave a bigger opening for my big guns. Then I had a problem serging the bodice to the pants, my serger was acting up, and it caught the pants in several places. BLEH. I tried taking it out in the worst bits, but this fabric is so light it was just making holes. I had to hand sew some holes closed and then I decided a belt would fix all of my problems. Now you can't really notice, and I think it needed a belt. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I am taking a trip to Italy next week and I am definitely packing this, along with mostly me mades. It weighs nothing, and I had it shoved in my bag all weekend and then put it on after a beach day and it's not even wrinkled. I think it will be perfect to wear on the airplane, comfy and chic, the only downside is stripping down to go to the bathroom! </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I've been saving this embroidered fabric from Mood since October, waiting to make the perfect sundress. It's a linen blend, maybe 100% linen, that was from Marc Jacobs. This is actually the second version of the same dress. The first version was something I semi drafted from something else, the bodice was too big, and just ended up weird. I had JUST enough fabric left to cut a Colette Patterns Hazel bodice, which I knew would fit.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I made skinny straps that are long enough to tie at the shoulder. I found the perfect shade of rick rack which i put along the top and two rows on the center front piece. I took these pictures after a lunch out with my husband so my facing is peeking out, my dress is a little wrinkled and the strapless bra is falling down, Whatever, I think it looks better in person. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Happy Independence Day! </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IJjj8hY2FLs/VZgdPXKhWII/AAAAAAAALzs/OBzJXRlimRQ/s1600/DSC_0534.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="402" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IJjj8hY2FLs/VZgdPXKhWII/AAAAAAAALzs/OBzJXRlimRQ/s640/DSC_0534.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I needed something cute to wear to celebrate, and I've been eyeing up this crinkle cotton plaid at Fabricland for a while so a patriotic crop top was in order! The top is <a href="http://butterick.mccall.com/b5895-products-44972.php?page_id=371">Butterick 5895</a>, one of the Patterns by Gertie. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I didn't make a muslin for this one, just some paper pattern fitting. The only change I made was to lengthen it about 1.5". Otherwise it would have been obscenely cropped. The pattern does not have a lengthen or shorten line, so I added the length just under the french darts. Right now it hits just at my natural waist, so it goes perfectly with my Freddie's of Pinewood Jeans! </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kA4J6tPP4k8/VZge0ty-A7I/AAAAAAAAL0Q/GFiT_IMOaIk/s1600/DSC_0527.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kA4J6tPP4k8/VZge0ty-A7I/AAAAAAAAL0Q/GFiT_IMOaIk/s640/DSC_0527.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The top comes together super quickly, there is no separate collar. It's one piece with the bodice and created with a dart and the facing. The trickiest part is getting the facing in the right place. The directions could have been a little clearer with better pictures. Since I lengthened it I added an extra button, and to make it extra patriotic, alternating red and blue buttons! </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">To match up the plaid i was just careful cutting it out and matched up the corresponding notches on the same color stripe. I'm not that confident matching plaid, but it matches on the shoulder seams as well as the back. The side seams aren't matched up because the french seam kind of ruins it. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Hey there sewing fanatics! I've been meaning to show you this outfit since the end of LAST summer, and I finally got some decent photos to share. I needed to make an summertime outfit that I could be cool and comfortable, and not all that fancy in. So immediately I wanted to make silk shorts.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Ok, I'm not so good at being super casual in case you hadn't noticed. I actually made this outfit to wear to a racetrack last September, and everyone else was wearing actual casual clothes, like boring khaki shorts, yuck. These pictures were taken on Island Beach State park on the Jersey shore where we planned to do a little hike with the dog but were eaten alive by bugs one minute into our walk. I'm not so sure silk shorts are hiking apparel. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The top is semi drafted by me, I took a princess seam bodice that the fit was already altered, and drafted a bottom to make a top. It's barely a flared shape. I then went ahead and added three rows of rick rack to it, because everything need rick rack, Duh. The fabric is a quilt weight cotton, one of those reproduction 30s prints from Windham fabrics. I bought the fabrics for the top and bottom at<a href="http://fabricland.com/"> Fabricland. </a></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The shorts are <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6965-products-48444.php?page_id=113">McCall's 6965</a>, but if you go to the website and look for them they will be under SKIRTS. I assure you this is a shorts pattern. I had to do some lengthening in the crotch region ( I hate that word, and I hate that I have to use it so much, talking about sewing all the time), as well as making the shorts a little longer. I think they are a pretty good length now. There is a little problem when it come to wearing these shorts and riding my bike. This silk goes flying in the air and won't stay down! </span></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It has a zipper at the center back, I made mine invisible because I hate putting in center zips. I think I will make another pair out of chambray, but would they technically be Jorts? What do you guys wear to be summertime casual when a dress is not really practical? </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This dress has all my favorite things in it, rick rack, fruit prints, and spinning ability. So obviously its amazing. I needed a dress for a fashion show for the class I've been teaching since January, Project Fabricland. It's a Project Runway inspired competition for students ages 10-18. They each had to design and sew an outfit inspired by a dessert. </span></div>
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My class with Sonjia Williams fro Project Runway All Stars</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The dress is a vintage pattern, Simplicity 2507, but with a gathered skirt. I was afraid the fruit print was going to look weird with the paneled skirt. Plus vintage patterns are so long and I didn't feel like chopping off a million inches. I had to make the bodice bigger, and do a fba. So it was stupid to even buy the pattern I could have just copied the picture. Whatever. I seem to snatch up any vintage pattern that has an opportunity for rick rack.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2jPSdVy50i4/VXG7ABTh8pI/AAAAAAAALsc/2lby1Si9TLI/s1600/image1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2jPSdVy50i4/VXG7ABTh8pI/AAAAAAAALsc/2lby1Si9TLI/s640/image1.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The fruit print is a quilt weight cotton, as soon as it came off the UPS truck at work, I knew I had to have it. I love love love a fruit print, but I am very particular about it. I don't like it when they look lifelike, they have to look vintage kitschy. I snatched up four yards for this dress, and ended up needing more. I made the skirt SUPER gathered. Its four panels of the fabric 45" wide. It's excessive, but makes for great twirling. </span></div>
<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This print looks like a picnic, so the gingham rick rack was a must. I also made deep patch pockets, to fit my iphone, and because pockets are a place to put MORE rick rack. I was planning on putting rick rack on the hem, but I stopped myself. So now I have 5 extra yards of black gingham rick rack.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I bodice is a skosh too big, and about a quarter of an inch too long, but I think the skirt is heavy and pulling it down. I also made a big hem, because I love they way it looks, its about 4.5". <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">What is it about Liberty fabric that just screams "SHIRTDRESS!!!" I got this gorgeous Liberty print for Christmas this year (thanks Mom!) and I have been trying to think of the perfect thing to make. The McCall's 6696 shirtdress has been going around the blogosphere and it looks amazing on everyone, I thought I would try it out. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I had just enough fabric to make the sleeveless version of the fuller skirt. I made a muslin of the bodice, and even with the different cup sizes for this pattern I needed to do a bit of an FBA. Based on some other reviews of this dress I took 1" of gathering away from the centerback. It still poofs a little, but I'm glad it took it out. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> I also took off some of the shoulder width. Why do sewing patterns think everyone has linebacker shoulders? It makes no sense! Does anyone else find this problem? The buttons are from Fabricland, they match the shade of green perfectly! I used a woven fusible interfacing, which I think maybe was a little bit too stiff, but the collar stands right up! This was my first pattern with a collar stand, so I was a little nervous about that but it was a piece of cake. The only downside to this pattern is all the handsewing. Oi. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I added some secret details to the inside. Leftover bias tape to the hem, and perfectly matching printed rick rack to the waistband. I only wish there was a place for it on the outside! I took these pictures on an expecially windy day down the shore (I'm from New Jersey, yes we really say that). The Liberty tana lawn is sooooooo fine that I was flashing everybody while walking the dog, any just of the wind sends this skirt flying! Oopsie. So that is my version of the famous M6696, have you made one too? I was thinking of making a shirt version. </span></div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XNqEIqotyC0/VWRlU2pP9AI/AAAAAAAALig/FAEWzHj3VDU/s1600/DSC_0432.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XNqEIqotyC0/VWRlU2pP9AI/AAAAAAAALig/FAEWzHj3VDU/s640/DSC_0432.JPG" width="425" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is actually my fourth Colette Pattern's Moneta dress, but the first one you have actually seen! I've made two winter versions with long sleeves, and a sleeveless that's on display at work for a class I'm teaching this summer. This one is my favorite. The fabric is an Art Gallery knit, the same as I used for my Carolyn Pjs. I've made something with 4 different of their prints now, they are so easy to work with and wash really well. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-J9joDvEgSvM/VWRnmwdOLtI/AAAAAAAALis/nCdV6VWVeFk/s1600/DSC_0439.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-J9joDvEgSvM/VWRnmwdOLtI/AAAAAAAALis/nCdV6VWVeFk/s640/DSC_0439.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I made the size L, which works fine for me. I did have to lengthen the bodice quite a bit, I have a long torso. I got this fabric from Fabric.com, I saw this print and I had to have it. (Plus I got 3% back on it with Ebates!). I ordered a little bit less than what the pattern said I needed, because they only sell in half yard increments. I had so much fabric left over! I was short an 1/8th and I had 7/8th left over. The fabric is wide enough that you can make two folds facing each other and fit the bodices. Same for the lining. I used the lining fabric for the undercollar, which also saves some fabric. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GdPF5jtZ_2k/VWRokmlQVUI/AAAAAAAALi4/Y1PLpUjaxmA/s1600/DSC_0436.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GdPF5jtZ_2k/VWRokmlQVUI/AAAAAAAALi4/Y1PLpUjaxmA/s640/DSC_0436.JPG" width="390" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The biggest change I made was to omit the seam from the collar. It doesn't need it and it just creates bulk at the shoulder. I did the same thing with the Colette Hawthorn, I hate bulky seams! I overlapped the pattern pieces and made a new all in one collar. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is my favorite Moneta yet! So easy to wear, I am tempted to make my 5th! I'm taking a trip to Italy this Summer and this dress is definitely coming with me! </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This Mother's Day my family spent a weekend down the shore. It's been the first time we have all been able to stay in our house since hurricane sandy. My Mom has been working really hard getting everything in order for the house and I wanted to make her something comfortable she could wear around the beach. We rode our bikes to the bay beach to take these pictures of the gorgeous bay. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OobYISx3SyQ/VVIPLqpls8I/AAAAAAAALak/mf9w2nWeKKk/s1600/DSC_0406.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OobYISx3SyQ/VVIPLqpls8I/AAAAAAAALak/mf9w2nWeKKk/s640/DSC_0406.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I thought a knit dress would be easy, and little fitting needed since this dress was a surprise. Colette Patterns <a href="https://www.colettepatterns.com/sewing/myrtle">Myrtle</a> seemed like the perfect thing. The fabric is another Art Gallery Knit, it's my FORTH time making something from these knits. I love them, they wash well, easy to sew, and the prints are very cute. This dress looks straight out of the Boden catalog, which happens to be my Mom's fave. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1XKEBuxxCjQ/VVIQDqNqWMI/AAAAAAAALas/YDZ19_DNCM8/s1600/DSC_0407.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1XKEBuxxCjQ/VVIQDqNqWMI/AAAAAAAALas/YDZ19_DNCM8/s640/DSC_0407.JPG" width="458" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I made the straight size M, and the longer skirt version. I'm not 100% happy with the fit. The top is a bit overly draped, overwhelming. And I wasn't expecting the back to be gaping too. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The dress came together in a few hours of working on it. The only trouble I had were the directions for the waistband elastic part. The drawings were throwing me off, sometimes when directions are too thorough it throws me off. I omitted the pockets, pockets in a knit just droop down as soon as you put your phone in it, I hate a droopy pocket. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The biggest change I mad was cutting the back skirt piece on the fold, instead of having a seam there. I can't figure out a reason why there needs to be a seam there. It didn't save any fabric, this knit is 60' wide so maybe it makes a difference for 45". I removed 3/8" seam allowance from the edge and placed it on the fold. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is the end of my selfless sewing streak. It started with a shirt for the dog, my brother's shirt, and now this but it's time to get back to sewing for ME. And they better not get used to all this selflessness, lol. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Happy Mother's day everyone!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
