After weeks of hard work my Starlet Suit Jacket is finally finished! I am very pleased with the way it came out. Gertie is an excellent instructor, and I would recommend this course to anyone. I love this pattern, I did a size ten with no alterations and it fits me perfectly. I hope Gertie's upcoming book will be just as perfect as this jacket, and I can't wait until it comes out!
I chose to do all the couture techniques offered in this course including, pad stitched lapels and collar, welt pockets, and bound buttonholes. Even though I have done most of this before, with the exception of the pockets, I learned different techniques which were so much easier than the way i was doing things before. The bound buttonhole, and facing for the buttonhole was amazing.
I used a spring green color wool coating, and a pink rose print silk lining, both from Mood Fabrics. The buttons which match perfectly are from M&J trim, also in NYC. I am so in love with this jacket, and really proud to wear it. Thanks Gertie and Craftsy!

DeleteI guess it's going to be a great mystery :-) One other question, as I consider which size to cut. I'm narrow in the torso but my chest is 37.5. I'm wondering if the upper bust / chest measurement on this thing is generous? I'd rather make an FBA in the 6 and get really good fit in the rest of the garment than make the 8 and swim in it everywhere but in the bust. But maybe the 8 will have a snugger fit, relative to the upper chest measurement, than a Colette pattern, for example? I'm wondering if I'm going to be working with something as roomy as a Colette pattern. Thanks for your advice...

DeleteAren't you going to make a muslin? I suppose it's roomy since it fit me, but then again the Gertie said she made the size 8, and that fit her snug. I'm also a size 10 in colette. IDk if this helps. The buttons are a little bigger than 1".
DeleteI intend to make a muslin but taping and cutting out that pattern is a bitch. I'd prefer to start in the best size, all things considered. I think it might be safer to cut the 8 (and grade down) but, given that you're a 10 in Colette - and I'm somewhere between a 6 and an 8 in Colette (with no FBA) - maybe the 6 with an FBA would be better. I wish I knew what to do :-) And so begins the unanswerable questions :-)
